Disordered Eating&
Weight Management

Overeating:

Overeating or emotional eating is a common issue we see often alongside depression or anxiety. Using food to deal with stress is as human as it comes. Sometimes patients need a little extra support in the way of medications that improve metabolism or lower blood sugar to help kick start that healthy eating plan and potential weight loss.

Binge Eating:

Bing eating involves eating larger quantities at at time than is comfortable. Patients eat past fullness, feel sick and then ashamed and the cycles continues. We use medication to improve appetite and address the addiction process and therapy to address underlying psychological issues which contribute to the binge eating.

Restriction or excessive dieting:

Often times patient have periods of restricting or controlling their food following a period of binge eating. Others struggle with controlling the amount of calories they take in to the point that the obsession impedes their relationships and daily life. Both medication and therapy can improve the ruminative and obsessive thought process associated with restricting food or repetitive dieting. Often when patients feel empowered with therapy, supplements and medication, they can let go of rigid control of their diet and exercise. Ironically when they let go of this rigidity, the weight falls off.

Anorexia/Bulimia:

For patients meeting criteria for anorexia who are underweight, coordination of care with a primary care provider is absolutely necessary for health and safety. Often restricting calories to the point of malnourishment requires a higher level of care than Resilient Minds can accommodate but often we treat patients who are on their way to recovery and have completed an inpatient or outpatient program. Binging and purging doesn't always result in severe weight loss but does affect one's health significantly. We often use the same medications we use for binge eating disorder to treat patients with bulimia.

Medications and Supplements:

Medications we use for disordered eating include naltrexone to help with weight loss and the cravings associated with the addiction process, Wellbutrin and Vyvanse to improve cravings and reduce overeating, NAC supplements and NAD+ injections to help with the addictive process. We take a naturopathic approach to address organ system imbalances which helps patients find their natural set point. We use peptide injections with B-12, B5, Choline and other lipotropic compounds.
